C. I. FRASER OF REELIG – THE CLAN MUNRO

The Association has a new stock of Charles Fraser of Reelig’s charming history of the clan, which was first published in 1954.  This excellent little book should be on every Munro’s bookshelf, as Fraser draws on historical documents, journals and publications to give an insight into the Clan of yesteryear in a way that is often missed by others.

As well as discussing the background to the Clan’s music – the Munros’ March, the Lament for Foulis and the Munros’ Salute amongst others – readers a treated to accounts of significant events in the clan’s history, together with anecdotes such as the unusual hospitality shown to a Jacobite Bishop in the 1760s, who described Foulis as a ‘Princely Seat’ and recorded how Munro of Culcairn treated him to ‘the best of Strong Ale, Claret of Vintage ’49 and good Coffee made of his own Wheat’
